Hello and welcome to my blog.
I am starting this blog with encouragement from inimino after a long conversation about books and movies. I have recently set a goal for myself: to read all the novels that have won the Nebula Award. I set this goal for myself after I have finished reading all of Robert A Heinlein's novels. I may write a post about that later on. After a conversation about whether Pan's Labyrinth was a great movie or not we moved on to discussing novels and inimino suggested that I should blog about my experiences while reading the Nebula Awards Novels. I will write another introductory post about the Nebula Awards with a list of novels soon and how I am going to go about this but I wanted to post up a quick introductory post about this blog.
This blog will not be only book reviews and my thoughts about the books. Book review posts will probably be prepended with 'Book Review:' and ones specifically with a goal such as Nebula will have an addition of 'Nebula:'. I will probably end up writing other things here that require more than 140 characters to express. I use twitter regularly and post interesting links to it. I have tried blogging before and I hope that I can keep with it by doing a regular post every time I finish reading a book as I do that often.
I am a student at Northeastern but I live in Newton and I take public transportation to and from work and school. This requires two hours of sitting, or standing, each day. One hour each way. Audiobooks really saved me from these commutes and I really love audiobooks. A lot of my reading is done in audiobook form and while some people say it is not the same as reading an actual book, I disagree for the most part. Audiobooks may be different in that I do not see the written word, which, for the most part does not matter. I get the content into my head one way or another. In fact, in a lot of people, auditory information has a greater rate or retention than visual information and because of this difference audiobooks may not be for everyone. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and thus large percentage of the reviews of the books will be from the audiobooks. I will probably do a bit of research about the books then to make sure I do not misspell the names of characters as that is the only downside of audiobooks. Which is an upside in some cases where the word is alien to you and you do not know how to pronounce it.
In addition to audiobooks, I listen to a lot of podcasts about tech and science and recently a few podcasts from the Economist. I love technology and science but I've realized I've been ignoring the news of the world around me so I am trying to expand my horizons. This blog is another way of doing so because until now I mostly consumed information and hopefully I will be able to produce something on a regular basis here. It is also meant to improve my writing ability which is truly lacking.
I will post an about me post soon as well for those of you who do not know me and those who do will possibly be able to find something new there as well. Meanwhile, find a short bio in the about section.
